From Paper to Practice: The GuiDiR Framework
Research Without Reach is a Waste: Introducing the GuiDiR Framework
Did you know? Less than 1/3 of research evidence is ever translated into policy or practice.
Publishing in a journal is no longer enough. If you want real-world impact, you need a strategy.
Researchers from NIHR and ARC East of England have launched GuiDiR (Guide to Disseminating Research)—a practical, evidence-based framework to fix the "communication gap."
The 5-Step GuiDiR Formula:
- Identify Audience: Who actually needs this info? (Patients? Policymakers?)
- Address Barriers: What stops them from using your findings?
- Refine Message: Ditch the jargon. Make it accessible.
- Implement Strategy: Go beyond the academic bubble.
- Evaluate Impact: Measure what changed.
The Key Takeaway: Don't treat dissemination as an afterthought. As Professor Debi Bhattacharya says, "Academic journals are ineffective at reaching all audiences." Start planning your communication before you start your research.
